Did you know that the CLT movement is tied directly to the Civil Rights Movement? Recognized national trainer John Davis will trace the history of the CLT movement outlining the relevance and impact it has had and continues to have on communities.
- 10:30 a.m. Workshop 1
Making the Case for CLTs: Learn how the CLT model can benefit your community with permanently affordable housing and subsidy retention. Learn how to explain the CLT model to decision makers in your community: housing advocates, public officials and major donors. (Introductory)
Challenges of the CLT Model: Learn from the voice of experience: seasoned CLT directors will explain some of the challenges they have faced in implementing the model, and how they have managed them. (Advanced)

- 1:15 p.m. Bus Tour
Bus Tour: Visit properties and projects within Durham and Orange Counties to see how each organization has used the CLT model in different ways to meet the needs of their targeted communities.
- 3:30 p.m. Workshop 2
Introduction to the Ground Lease: The ground lease is at the heart of the CLT approach to creating permanently affordable housing. This workshop will provide an overview of the CLT ground lease, with a special focus on the resale formula. (Introductory)
Resale Strategies: What are some of the issues CLTs face when homes resell? This workshop will discuss best practices for managing re-sales, and how to craft ground lease terms that will ensure a smooth resale process. (Advanced)

Join us at the new downtown Chapel Hill Franklin Hotel for networking and socializing before setting out for dinner on Chapel Hill’s famous Franklin Street. Dinner suggestions will be included in your confirmation email. Transportation to and from the reception will be provided.

- 10:30 a.m. Workshop 3
How to start a CLT: Interested in starting a CLT in your community? This workshop will outline basic steps in the start-up process: selecting a service area, building community support, finding initial funding, and identifying target markets. (Introductory)
Homeowners and CLTs: An Ongoing Relationship This workshop will cover the pre and post-purchase needs of CLT homeowners, with a special emphasis on financial issues such as mortgage financing, foreclosure prevention, and budgeting for long-term maintenance. (Advanced)
